Thomas Townsley is a Nashville-based mandolinist, composer, and computer scientist dedicated to expanding the capabilities of the mandolin and exposing it to a new generation of listeners. His work is rooted in the natural romantic sounds of the mandolin re-imagined as an instrument of the future. When he’s not out playing with his band, The Resonauts, he’s probably working on his pickups or writing.

Thomas has performed at a range of venues in both the US and abroad—from intimate listening rooms to regional festivals—and is equally at home in solo sets or collaborative settings. The joy and life Thomas brings to the stage is a must see for anyone interested in the folk genre and beyond.

“Throughout my life, the mandolin has always been my primary means of expression, whether it be for creative or technical aims. I’ve tried everything from electric guitars to synthesizers and I always come back to simply playing the mandolin. It’s the only way I know how to communicate.”
